Well Woman Care and General Gynecology
For all women over 21 it is generally recommended that a well woman exam is done each year. The Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare) requires that all insurance pays for this exam once a year without any out of pocket expense as a key component of preventive care. Unfortunately Medicare was not also mandated to cover a well woman exam, even though an annual well woman exam is recommended for women in the Medicare age group. Medicare does pay for part of the exam every other year, however.
Dr Donald Snyder welcomes the opportunity to be your medical home for all gynecologic related services. He has specialty training and experience to help maintain your health, and to treat any problems when they arise. At a well woman exam, Dr Snyder performs a breast exam and pelvic exam after a careful review of your overall medical condition and a personalized discussion about healthful habits, potentially developing problems, cancer risks, and relationship issues. Medicines such as hormone replacement therapy, birth control and others are either refilled or started as needed, and screening tests such as mammograms and pap tests are discussed and ordered when needed.
Pap tests are provided by Dr Snyder under the most up to date guidelines, and generally start after age 21. A Pap is not the same as an annual well woman exam. Pap tests are performed every 1-2 years until age 30 then are usually needed only every third visit as long as the results continue to be normal. A test for HPV is done in conjunction with the pap to fully evaluate your risk for cervical cancer. Remember, a Well Woman Exam is recommended every year whether a pap test is needed or not.
